Styling Mrs Oliver suggests 7 Favourite Jean Brands

Are you a jeans lover? I'm obsessed with jeans and pretty much live in mine. If you hate jeans then this will not be the post for you, but if not......please read on! Styling Mrs Oliver suggests tried and tested jean brands to help take some of the pain out of creating essential core basics for your wardrobe.

I have to admit I am very loyal to certain brands especially if I find something that fits well and can stand the test of time. The last thing anyone needs is a high maintenance pair of jeans, they need to last for years and be easy to wash and wear. I have owned a few pairs of Vanessa Bruno jeans in a couple of different shapes and had the pleasure of wearing them for nine years. Starting out in a deep indigo wash, they gradually faded and more recently the knees went, and even though rips are on trend, when the zipper finally broke I had to accept that they had finished their life span. Vanessa Bruno is not the cheapest brand but when I bought them in her Paris store I convinced myself they were an investment jean. I have literally lived in them ever since so they were definitely worth the investment.

So what other jean brands are there to get sentimental about? Styling Mrs Oliver loves MOTHER JEANS. Aside from the very cool Mother Loves You tag-line and 70's styling, the jeans themselves are so soft and gentle on the skin it feels like they are invisible. You could definitely call them an IT jean and they are being worn by fashion editors and bloggers globally. The signature frayed hem on their cropped jeans and 70's flares are probably the most photographed. Classic options are also included within the range, from skinny jeans to boyfriend shapes and bootleg options. See motherdenim.com to view the entire range.

Top Shop has an amazing range of jean shapes with an affordable price range. One of my favourite shapes is the LUCAS slim leg boyfriend jean which has a lean leg shape and slight slouch so they do the boyfriend thing without swamping the body.

Emanuelle Alt; French Vogue editor, wears the Top Shop BAXTER jeans regularly in black or white. She is well known for her understated french style - dressing up a slim leg jean with a tailored jacket and kitten heel and making it look so easy and effortless.

All brands vary a little in sizing and some can be more generous than others so try a couple of sizes to find a fit that works for you, looser in my mind is better than spray on. Check out topshop.com online and view the jeans fit section to see the full range of styles and explanation on fit.

JBRAND - "Love Story" dark indigo flared jeans. I first bought this style about 8 years ago but they are still available. I get them altered so they cover my foot almost completely with a heel, to achieve an even longer leg. Also available in black and white.

GOLDSIGN - "Lure jean" long length skinny jeans. This style looks good long or cuffed. It has lovely pick stitching detail, super soft denim and is available in a variety of colours. A staple jean.

FRAME - "Le Garcon" loose fit boyfriend jean - a great classic shape and basic.

LEVI'S - currently stock an extensive range of jeans in modern washes and styles, aside from the vintage classics, and if you are a size 16 and over they have a great skinny jean with stretch and support for a comfortable lean leg.

LEVI'S VINTAGE - I have a soft spot for recycled denim, check out vintage and second-hand stores for some 501 Levi's classics and experiment with some looser fits to create new looks.

This wide leg crop jean is on trend, not a staple but more of a fashion highlight. Get the look with these CITIZENS OF HUMANITY jeans and check out the full range of other contemporary styles HERE.

Styling Mrs Oliver tip: Pulling the shirt off the shoulders, really? Off the shoulder looks are on trend this season, the statement jeans are also on trend. Best not to try doing everything in one outfit.

Next week I will have highlights and inspiration from the Fall 16 runway shows in NY and Europe including Styling Mrs Oliver's most wearable.
